For this assignment, you be choosing one of the following topics and discussing the similarities (NOT THE DIFFERENCES).

• Country Music and Rap/Hip hop
• Romantic Comedies and Horror movies

Word Count for Final Submission:  750 words

Instructions:  The goal here is for you to analyze the similarities between two genres. I am interested in how these things are alike in philosophy, concept, message, theory, execution, or any other elements you decide. The response, “They are both types of music or movies” is not acceptable.

This is a formal essay, so adhere to the rules of formal writing (no first person, no contractions, etc.)

Research Requirement: Your final draft must contain at least four primary sources (the actual songs and/or movies you will be using to support your points). These sources must be cited parenthetically within your paper as well as listed on a “works cited” page. Both must be in proper MLA format.

MLA Format for an Essay: Must be typed in 12 Point Conservative Font (e.g. Times New Roman). Double-Spaced (check the paragraph formatting – make sure the “Do not add space between paragraphs of same style” box is checked). Header with five items (your name, professor’s name, course, assignment, date). Centered title (not bolded, underlined, or italicized; same font size as the body of the essay). One inch margins (top, bottom, left, and right). Your last name and page number (Doe 2, for example) in the upper right hand corner (0.5 inch from top right hand corner; use the insert page number function on your word processor and add your name).
